Filing deadline passes; ballots set

MARENGO — Iowa voters will elect city and school officials Tuesday, Nov. 7. The filing deadline passed last week, and ballots have been set.
Iowa County
School elections
Voters in the Kirkwood Community College Districts 4 and 5 will choose directors in November. Lorraine Williams is on the ballot for District 4; Alan Jensen is running for the District 5 seat.
Clear Creek Amana School Board has two candidates for District 1 board director: April Schmitz and Allison Momany. Jennifer Bollers is the only candidate for District 3.
Clear Creek Amana voters have four choices for at-large school board director: Joe Burns, Sarah Rivera, Gabe Schaapveld and Abdouramane Bila.
Candidates for District 2 director are Patricia Higby and Jennifer Downes.
Running for directors at large in the English Valleys School District are Katie Taukei, Fred Huebner, Susan Schaefer, Whit Faas, Steven Banes, Thomas O. Voss and Ashley Dickey.
HLV School District will vote for directors at large from the following candidates: Sharon Kriegel, Maria Hawkins, Laurel Hollopeter, Michael Gilboa, David Doran, Michael Kolesar and Blake Kuesel.
Three candidates are seeking seats on the Iowa Valley School Board: Jillissa Chvala, Ellen O’Rourke and Benjamin Wagner.
In Williamsburg, school director at-large candidates are Quinn Wolfe and Mark Armstrong.
Mid-Prairie School District will vote for Mary Allred, Randy Billups, Ryan Schlabaugh, Jim Miller or Denise J. Chittick.
And at Tri-County, Heather Schmidt and Chad McKain are seeking to be directors at large.
City elections
Ladora will elect a mayor Nov. 7. Kevin R. York is running unopposed for the position.
Annette Ehrenberger, Brian Ward and Craig York are running for the Ladora City Council.
Adam Rabe is unopposed in the Marengo mayoral race. Karen Wayson-Kisling is the only candidate for Marengo City Council.
Richard Fry is running for Mayor of Millersburg. Vying for the town’s council seats are Travis Gensley, Michael Gorsch and Jeffrey Clark.
In North English, Daniel J. Strohman is on the ballot for mayor, and Gerald Allen Haugland, Kathy O’Rourke and Louis Garringer are running for city council.
Andrew Custer is seeking a North English City Council seat to fill a vacancy.
Parnell has two candidates for mayor: Larry Schropp and Matthrew Stoner.
Four names are on the ballot for Parnell City Council: Brad Strasser, Jared Dhondt, Rick Rodgers and Jamie Abernathy.
In Victor, voters will chose between Donald Craig and Eric Refer for mayor.
Running for Victor City Council are Cindy Trout Smith, Josh Scholtus, Shawn Sternhagen, Tyler Kasper, Marla Faga, Joan Robinson, James Thompson and Jim Rajtora.
Adam Grier is running for mayor of Williamsburg, and Dale Walter, Tyler Marshall and Anne Zalenski are seeking council seats.
Benton County
School elections
In Benton County, voters will select three directors at large for Belle Plaine school board. Alicia Jacobi, Shirley Coles, Benjamin Reimeke and Tylar Gallagher are seeking the seats.
Belle Plaine Community School District will also ask voters to adopt a revenue purpose statement to authorize the expenditure of revenue from the State of Iowa Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund received by the Belle Plaine district for such things as providing property take relief, acquiring or installing information technology infrastructure, building or furnishing new school buildings or remodeling or expanding buildings, purchasing or leasing buildings or equipment for repairing transportation equipment or to purchase land as part of start-up costs for the new student construction program.
In Benton Community School District, Nichole Rinholen and Jason Schanbacher are vying for the District 1 seat. Thereas Thompson is running unopposed for the District 2 seat, and Matt Nolte is unopposed in the race for District 3 director.
Emily Kaiser is the only candidate for director of District 7. Scott W. Shaw is running in District 4 to fill a vacancy.
In the Vinton-Shellsburg School District, Le Cox is the only candidate for director at large. Thomas Burke and Rebecca S. Williams are running for the two District 1 seats.
Jake Fish is running unopposed in District 2.
City elections
Mike Palumbo, Trevor Dursky, David Fisher, Jeffrey Semelroth, Jeremy Chihak and Jade Nutt are candidates for two seats on the Atkins City Council.
Lyle Morrow and David Fish are candidates for Belle Plaine mayor.
Voters in Belle Plaine will choose either Mary T. Pech or Garrett Landuyt for the city council at-large seat.
Charmaine Wickwire is running unopposed for Belle Plaine’s District 2 seat.
Lonny G. Weber is on the ballot for park commissioner.
Blairstown will elect a mayor. Rodney C. Kubichek is the sole candidate.
Scott Metz and Nicholas Mokas are candidates for two Blairstown City Council seats.
In Garrison, Garrett Flickinger is running for mayor and Marvin Trimble and Doug Kearns are seeking the two open council seats.
Mark W. Andresen is the sole candidate for Keystone Mayor.
Rebecca Andresen, Mike L. Stoner and Michael A. Root will compete for two open Keystone council seats.
In Luzerne, voters have one candidate for mayor: John W. Brandt.
Luzerne voters will elect five city council members. Five candidates on are the ballot: Barbara Shields, Joel D. Buttikofer, Kyla Buttikofer, Kelly W. Kendall and Jeani Brandt.
Mt. Auburn’s Austin Brase is running for mayor of the town. Jared Helms, Cody Lundry, Shelby Williams and Mercedes Bickel are vying for five open city council positions.
Jan Mattson and Doug Boddicker are seeking election to the Newhall mayoral position. Ben Seeck, Rachelle Messner, Schuyler M. Brinkley, Douglas Rinderknecht, Douglas Wendel and Bruce Cross are candidates for Newhall’s five city council seats.
No one is seeking the position of Norway mayor, but Christopher J. Van Horn, Darrell A. Schulte and Michael Schulte filed for Norway City Council. Voters will choose two of the three.
Norway will also elect someone to fill a vacancy on the city council. Terry L. Pickart is the only candidate seeking the position.
Lonnie M. Speckner and Phillip Travis are running for Shellsburg mayor.
Paul Bristol, Brian Reeves, and Scott Hepker are running for Shellsburg City Council. Voters will choose two.
Urbana have a choice of Shane Williams or Gary Benson on the ballot for mayor.
Nicholas McClain, Jeff Bendull, Amanda Vaske and Shelly Lala are seeking three city council seats.
Urbana will also decide if the city should be authorized to levy, annually, a property tax of 27 cents per $1,000 of taxable value beginning July 1, 2025 for the purpose of increasing the annual operating budget of the Urbana Public Library.
In Van Horne, Pat Gorkow is the sole candidate for mayor. Two open council seats have only one candidate: Todd Donald.
Bud Maynard is running for Vinton mayor. Tamara S. Stark is running for Vinton council at-large, and Dakoda Sellers and Andrew Elwick are running for the District 2 seat.
Zach Parmater is the sole candidate for Vinton council District 3 to fill a vacancy. Bethany Gates is running for Vinton council from District 4.
Walford has no candidate for mayor on the ballot. Randy Bauer and Matt Greiner are running for Walford City Council.
