Firefighters Dillon Fry and Mike McBride accept a donation for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Fill the Boot campaign in Marengo Saturday. "My son passed from MS, and my grandson has it," said McBride, who has been with the fire department for 42 years. The campaign raises funds that used to be raised by the Jerry Lewis Telethon every year, said McBride. Marengo Fire Department collects money for about two hours. "Usually it's hot, and by the time it's over, everybody's ready to quit," McBride said. Marengo firefighters collect an average of $2,000 a year, he said. (Winona Whitaker/Hometown Current)
