WILLIAMSBURG — A street dance in Williamsburg Saturday raised more than $2,000 toward the purchase of a truck for Williamsburg First Responders.
Hosted by The Sundown Bar and Grill, the street dance filled West State Street and the northeast corner of the square with food, drinks and music Saturday, Aug. 2.
DJ Chris Roggentien provided music from 6-7 p.m., and the band Unbalanced performed from 7-10 p.m.
Williamsburg First Responder members, friends and family manned the outdoor beer tent.
From 10 p.m. to 1 p.m., the party moved inside. Roggentien provided music for karaoke at Sundown Bar and Grill.
First Responders raised more than $2,700 in the 50/50 raffle. Amber Snow was the winner of the drawing and graciously donated her half back to the department, event organizers said.
The Williamsburg First Responders is a volunteer, non-transport, Emergency Medical Services agency that responds to calls in Williamsburg, Conroy, Parnell, and the surrounding rural areas. It also cover nearly 15 miles of Interstate 80, according to its Facebook page.
Unlike other emergency medical services, Williamsburg First Responders don’t receive city, county or state tax dollars and operate solely off donations from individuals and businesses.
The First Responders’ current vehicle is more than 20 years old, and is ready to be retired, the organization said. The First Responders are purchasing a 2025 Chevy Suburban to help meet the changing needs of the department.
The First Responders hope to make the dance an annual event.
