From Armenia to Alaska and many points in between, nonprofit organizations got a boost Jan. 7 when the FLAME Fund distributed its awards for the year.
The First Lutheran All Mission Endowment fund awarded $20,500 to 16 organizations, including the Armenia Medical Mission, Clarke Cares Foundation, Victory Bible Camp, Lutheran Services of Iowa, and the Mount Mercy Dance Marathon.
Awards will be used for things such as mosquito nets and food pantries, camping supplies and seminary scholarships.
Nearly $6,500 were given to organizations in Iowa County. The First Presbyterian Church and Iowa County Food Banks, Marengo Ministerial Alliance, Williamsburg Fire Department, Highland Ridge, and Tuesday Connections all benefited from gifts.
About $5,450 was given to organizations in the state of Iowa, and $8,550 to organizations that will use the funds outside of Iowa.
The FLAME fund exists to help spread the good news of Jesus Christ through annual disbursements to help people in need, the organization says.
The disbursement of awards took place during First Lutheran Church in Conroy’s Mission Sunday, an annual celebration of the impact that the small rural congregation has in the community and wider world.
The FLAME Fund information and application is available at firstlutheranconroy.org. Review of applications begins in October and recipients are notified in December.
