Fortnightly women meet at history center

NORTH ENGLISH — The North English Fortnightly Women’s Club met March 14 at the English Valleys History Center. Co-hostesses were Kathy Van Berkum and Pat Denison.
Amy Andreassen called the meeting to order. Ten members recited the Flag Pledge and Club Collect.
Kathy Van Berkum shared meditation with two readings, “Smiling is Infectious” and “How you can begin your day.”
Roll Call was taken by stating a country you’d like to visit.
Andreassen reported that the club received a note from Gae Wofford and the Community Center thanking the club for Valentine’s Day cards.
Dave Jackson, of The History Center, sent a thank you for payment for use of the center, Kathy Huber reported.
Expenses for the month consisted of $250 to PACE. The club’s balance as of March 14 is $1,726.64.
Bonnie Romine reported that she’d contacted Kristin Fisch about the annual spring plantings. Fisch said they are ready to go.
This is the 10th year English Valleys FFA and students will help with the plantings.
Sondra Aldrich shared a Gazette article about a woman who survived the Holocaust who will speak at Kirkwood and Coe Colleges.
Esperanza Lopez, English Valleys’s Spanish teacher, shared her journey to American Citizenship and her experience learning English as a second language.
Refreshments were served following the meeting.
