Foundation awards $144,621 in grants

PARNELL — The Iowa County Community Foundation awarded $144,621 in grants to 17 local nonprofit organizations Thursday, July 24, in Parnell.
Grants were awarded to projects improving quality of life and creating long-term impact in Iowa County communities, said the Foundation in a press release.
In Arts and Culture, Amana Heritage Society was awarded $12,000 for preservation of the Homestead Church Museum Interior. English Valleys History Center received $4,382 for a technology upgrade for the community and organizations, and the Iowa County Historical Society received $5,000 for a handicap accessible restroom addition.
In Community Betterment, American Legion Post 76 received $4,971 for a parking lot expansion, and the City to Millersburg received $11,500 for updates to the ball field and concession stand.
The City of Parnell was awarded $7,089 for acoustic tiles at the city hall, and Pickleball Iowa County was awarded $5,000 for construction of outdoor pickleball courts.
In Education and Youth Development, Parents and Leaders for Students received $12,620 for playground shade structure.
Williamsburg Community Child Care received $3,213 for W4C’s continual quality improvement.
In Environment and Animal Welfare, the City of North English was awarded $12,101 for and the City of Williamsburg $20,000 for updates to their trail systems.
Gateway Improvement Group received $5,200 for Gateway Park dock repair, and Marengo Trails Foundation received $20,000 for trail expansion.
Safe Haven of Iowa City received $5,000 for air conditioning and drainage.
In the area of health, the Foundation gave the City of North English first responders $6,544 for outdoor automated external defibrillators.
The Iowa Dental Foundation, Iowa Mission of Mercy received $5,000 for its free dental clinic.
In the category of Human Service Families Helping Families of Iowa received $5,000 to support the program.
Grants were recommended by the Iowa County Community Foundation’s governing committee, composed of volunteers. The 2025 governing committee consists of Paulette Dietrich, Erin Eichhorn, Trenton Forrest, Ellie Garringer, Justin Gingerich, Rhonda Glandorf, Natasha Hauschilt, Ann Krakow and Bonnie Romine.
Natasha Hauschilt and Bonnie Romine were recognized for their service as they transition off the committee. New members were welcomed.
The 2026 ICCF grant cycle opens March 1, 2026, with a deadline of April 15, 2026. Application guidelines and materials can be found at iowaccf.org.
