GRINNELL — Grinnell residents Evan Petig and Abby Copeman Petig, announced this week that they’ve purchased the Carriage House Bed and Breakfast, Grinnell's first and longest-running B&B.
Built in 1895, the Carriage House has long been a favorite destination for visitors seeking the charm and warmth of small-town Iowa, says a press release. The Petigs purchased the property at 1133 Broad Street and from Ray and Dorothy Spriggs, who ran the B&B for more than 32 years.
Operating under the name The Grinnellian B&B, the home is poised to continue its legacy as a special destination, blending historic charm with modern comforts, the press release says.
The property, a beautifully maintained and furnished Victorian home, features six guest rooms, most with private en suite bathrooms, period furnishings, comfortable common spaces and amenities.
The Petigs are no strangers to the Grinnell community. Evan, a Grinnell College alum, left for the west coast after college, but returned in 2002 and has called Grinnell home for over two decades.
Abby, a Grinnell native and also a Grinnell College alum, left town to pursue her PhD in Boston, but returned after meeting Evan in 2011. They reside in and are continuously renovating a historic Main Street home with their two elementary-aged sons, the press release says.
Their daughter, Addyson, lives in Des Moines and their oldest son, Brody, attends college in Colorado. Evan and Abby look forward to welcoming guests and continuing to create unique and memorable experiences for visitors to the community.
Ray and Dorothy will continue to be familiar faces to guests as they work with the Petigs on a transitional plan that allows them to be involved in the B&B’s day-to-day operations.
the Springs not going far. They will continue to reside in Grinnell but appreciate the freedoms that accompany retirement, including the ability to travel more, the press release says.
