Grinnell farmers market opens next week
Apr. 30, 2024 8:32 am
GRINNELL — The Grinnell Farmers Market will kick off Thursday, May 9 from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The market welcomes back many longtime vendors and adds new vendors with new products.
The Grinnell Farmers Market is organized by the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce and is presented by Grinnell Mutual in partnership with UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center, and Grinnell College.
The market will be set up at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Broad Streets. Residents are asked to avoid parking in those spaces after 1 p.m. on Thursdays and after 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays to allow vendors time to set up.
The market will have a card reader available for those wishing to purchase tokens to use at the market. Debit/Credit tokens can be purchased to use as cash with all vendors at market.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program tokens can be purchased with SNAP cards to use for qualifying products.
The market will participate in the Double Up Food Bucks Program for the 2024 season. Customers are able to earn food bucks when purchasing SNAP tokens, or then can bring the food bucks earned at Fareway and spend them on qualifying products.
The card reader stand will be in front of the Veteran’s Memorial Building.
Applications for full time Thursday vendors are no longer being accepted, but full-time vendors for Saturdays and part-time vendors for both days will still be accepted.
All items for sale must be entirely grown or made by the vendor or immediate family members in Iowa.
On Saturday, May 11, the market will participate in the Mother’s Day Build a Bouquet event along with participating downtown retailers. Moms can collect flowers from participating farmers market vendors for the event.
Olson Garden Market will host Plant a Pizza at the farmers market May 30 and June 1.
Anyone interested in being a vendor or performing music during the markets can find more information at grinnellfarmersmarket.com or by emailing marissa@getintogrinnell.com or calling 641-236-6555.
