Grinnell hospital celebrates Heart Month
Feb. 21, 2024 10:37 am
GRINNELL — UnityPoint Health-Grinnell celebrated Heart Month in February by recognizing the impactful patient care provided by the Grinnell Cardiac Rehabilitation team.
The cardiac rehabilitation team’s comprehensive heart programs include exercise training, nutritional counseling, smoke cessation counseling and stress management education.
The team teaches patients about symptom management, medications and what lifestyle changes should be implemented at home to return patients to their optimal level of health.
Cardiac Rehab is a physician ordered service for individuals who have experienced heart attacks, coronary intervention, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve replacement or repair, chronic systolic heart failure and chronic stable angina.
Participants in cardiac rehab result have a 26% to 31% lower risk of death from cardiac disease, reduced hospital readmission rates, improved stamina and strength and improved mood, confidence and quality of life, UnityPoint says.
Grinnell’s cardiac rehab team works with primary care providers and had over 12,000 outpatient visits in Grinnell in 2023.
