Grinnell Nurses receive DAISY Award
Jul. 30, 2024 10:20 am
GRINNELL — UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center honored two UnityPoint Health team members, Morgan Beck and Amber Evans, with The DAISY Award.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care that nurses provide patients and families every day.
Morgan Beck
“As an obstetrics (OB) nurse, you’re present during one of the most important times in a patient’s life,” says Beck’s DAISY nomination, written by a patient.
“It can be stressful, uncertain and downright scary! From the moment Morgan stepped into our room, she calmly, yet assertively, led us through the birth of our first child in a way that made us feel like we were getting world-class service in our small town hospital.”
Beck, who has been a nurse for 10 years, has worked in the OB department since she began her career at Grinnell Regional, according to the hospital. She was surprised with an award presentation by the patient nominator and family, her manager and team members.
Being chosen for the DAISY award has been humbling, Beck said in a press release from UnityPoint.
“I love making connections with my patients and getting to follow them from delivery to postpartum and being with them through the whole process. It’s what I love about our hospital and our OB department.”
Amber Evans
Evans has been a nurse for the past 19 years and has worked in the Medical Surgery department since she began her career at Grinnell Regional seven years ago.
“My favorite part of working at GRMC is working with my co-workers,” said Evans, according to a UnityPoint press release. “They make a hard job fun.”
“Amber was an outstanding nurse!” wrote the person who nominated her. “She always came into the room with a positive attitude and gave great care to my mother as her patient.
“She went above and beyond to provide compassionate care to my mother and all our family. I can’t say enough about the great care at UnityPoint Health — Grinnell!”
“I feel very honored to be nominated and chosen,” Evans said in a press release from UnityPoint. “I think back to the tough days and realize I am making a difference, even when I don't feel like I am.”
The DAISY Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family. Barnes died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease.
DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.
