Grinnell Regional names medical director

GRINNELL -- Gene Gessner has been named medical director for UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Gessner started his role as GRMC’s medical director Jan. 15. Gessner has been practicing as a pain medicine specialist there since 2008, said UnityPoint in a news release.

Gessner earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency with their Department of Anesthesiology. He performed a fellowship in pain management with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

Gessner began his medical career in 1994 and practices as a pain medicine provider and anesthesiologist.

In addition to acting as medical director, Gessner will continue providing pain management care for patients at the UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Pain Clinic, offering a broad scope of interventional pain management techniques for chronic and acute pain, the hospital said.
