Helgeson named delegate for Global Youth Institute

MARENGO — Shayla Helgeson, of Marengo FFA, has been selected as an Iowa Delegate for the prestigious World Food Prize Global Youth Institute taking place this October in Des Moines.

Helgeson is Iowa Valley’s first ever Iowa Delegate selected, said Marcia Kilgard, FFA adviser.

The senior will be joining top students from around the globe to tackle critical issues around global food security.

The Global Youth Institute is a weeklong academic conference where student delegates present their research, engage in roundtable discussions with international experts and collaborate on solutions for a more sustainable and food-secure world.

Since 1994, nearly 4,000 young leaders have taken part in this transformative experience.

In recognition of her achievement, Helgeson is also now eligible for a $2,000 scholarship to Iowa State University.
