Heyne leads English Valleys at State

DES MOINES — English Valleys had the highest team finish among area teams in the boys state track meet in Des Moines last weekend.

English Valleys tied for 16th, entirely because of Gage Heyne, who was fourth in the 800, sixth in the 1,600, and fifth in the 3,200.

Lane Vokoun of Belle Plaine, was a two-event place winner, fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 110 hurdles.

For Iowa Valley, the 4x400 meter boys relay team, Karter Theissen, Caleb Haack, Layne Peska and Jeffrey Crawford placed fourth, just 1/4 of a second from second place.

The team broke the school record of 3.25.09.

The same runners placed seventh in the 800-meter medley relay with a time of 1.35.8. Only Theissen graduates this year, so the Iowa Valley runners could be back at state in 2025.

High jumper, Josh Reid, a sophomore, jumped 6’3”, a personal best, to place sixth.

Jeffrey Crawford placed 13th in the 400 M Dash with a time 51.13 seconds.

Caleb Haack placed 13th in the 200 M Dash with a time of 22.65.

The boys 4x110 Metter Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team was ranked 22nd, but ran a personal best of 1.04.76 to place 15th. The runners were Chance Hoyt, Dawson Smith, Nolan Kriegel and Josh Read.
