Apr. 17, 2024 1:34 pm
The April 4 program for the Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society centered on the Monticello-based Camp Courageous.
Board member, Jim Foels, from Brooklyn, surprised the historical society by bringing Camp Courageous Chief Executive Officer Charlie Becker with him. Becker has managed Camp Courageous for about 40 years.
Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational, respite and travel program for individuals of all ages with disabilities. Becker entertained the attendees with his inspirational message.
The next meeting for The Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society will take place Thursday, May 2 at 1:30 p.m. A short business meeting will precede the afternoon program which will be presented by Scott and Bonnie Romine.
The North English couple will report on movies with an Iowa connection, based “The Book of Iowa Films.” Their talk will include film clips. Anyone interested in this subject is welcome to attend.
The location for this program is the Carnegie building, located at 200 S. Third St. in Montezuma. A handicapped entrance can be found on the south side of the building. Refreshments will be served.
