Historical society program will feature Montezuma founding father

MONTEZUMA — The Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the Carnegie building meeting room.
The Carnegie building is located in Montezuma, Iowa at 200 South Third Street. A handicapped entrance can be found on the south side of the building.
Reva Brown will present a program featuring one of Montezuma’s Founding Fathers, John W. Wilson. Anyone interested in early Montezuma history should attend.
Refreshments will be served.
Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society is a volunteer organization interested in preserving Poweshiek County history. The group works to maintain three buildings located on a corner of the courthouse square in Montezuma.
The museum is housed in the former Poweshiek County sheriff's office. The 100-year-old Carnegie building holds the genealogy research library. Over 500 family history stories are located on shelves and available to visitors.
Staff will assist in researching family names of early Poweshiek County residents. Volunteers are on hand Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The staff will open the museum and school for visitors.
