MARENGO — Michael Huston will present “Iowa Civil War Images” at the Iowa County Pioneer Heritage Museum Sunday Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
Huston will show his large collection of Civil War photographs and talk about how he collected them. Images of Iowa County soldiers from the Civil War will be featured.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their Civil War artifacts and photos for digital scanning.
Huston is a 2004 Graduate of Iowa State University who majored in Agricultural Education, according to a press release from the Iowa County Historical Society.
Huston would consider himself an amateur historian at best, but he credits his love of learning and teaching to his strong passion for educating others about Iowa’s involvement in the Civil War, the Historical Society said.
Huston was first published in “Military Images” magazine in 2021 with an article titled "The Pride of Washington County” about a large photo composite of Civil War soldiers from Washington County, Iowa.
In 2022 Huston started a Facebook group titled “Iowa Civil War Images.” The group has grown to more than 2,100 members who have shared more than 2500 images of Iowa soldiers.
Huston said he believes that this is the largest digital collection of Iowa Civil War Images in the world, the press release says.
The museum grounds will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28. A grill lunch with homemade ice cream will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m.
A short Historical Society meeting and Huston’s program will begin at 2 p.m.
