NORTH ENGLISH — Phil Hester has been writing and drawing comics for nearly forty years.
Starting while still a high school student at English Valleys, Phil began creating comics for his fellow students, many of them caricaturing their teachers and coaches.
Hester began working professionally while studying for his BFA from The University of Iowa. Since then, he has written and drawn hundreds of comics for nearly every comic book publisher in North America.
Hester has had notable runs on familiar characters like Green Arrow, Swamp Thing, Ant-Man, Batman, The Flash, Justice League, Wonder Woman, G.I. Joe, Fortnite and Invincible.
Hester created many characters that have appeared in feature films such as “Suicide Squad” and “Ant-Man,” as well as television shows like “Arrow,” “Batman: The Caped Crusader” and “Superman and Lois.”
His creation Firebreather became an Emmy-winning television feature on Cartoon Network.
So why is he living in North English instead of a luxurious mansion in Beverly Hills? There’s only one way to find out. Join him at the English Valleys History Center Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. for an informal discussion of his origins in North English and his career in comics and television.
The event is free, but donations are welcome.
