HLV rallied for four runs in the top half of the seventh inning to wipe out a 4-2 deficit and beat Colfax-Mingo 6-4 in South Iowa Cedar League baseball action Thursday, June 22, at Colfax.
A two-run single by Kyler Gorsh, his third hit of the game, was the big blow in the Warriors’ seventh inning comeback, giving them their second win over the Tigerhawks this season — the first meeting a 6-5 final May 26 at Victor.
Max Henstorf also had three hits for HLV, Boston York doubled twice and Cole Fontinel, Bryer Jack and Brody Sternhagen singled.
Peyton Roth was the winning pitcher, giving up two earned runs on four hits in three innings of work, striking out eight. Camdern Kennebeck went the other four innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
The Warriors improved to 5-9 with the win and have two regular season games remaining before beginning postseason play Saturday, July 1, in the Class 1A District 7 quarterfinals against Gladbrook-Reinbeck at Gladbrook.
LOSE TO BRAVES, WARHAWKS
HLV also lost games to Montezuma and North Mahaska last week.
The Warriors were shut out on the road by the Braves Wednesday, June 21, 5-0.
HLV had just three hits in the game, including a pair of doubles by Kennebeck.
Then Warriors fell at home to the Warhawks Monday, June 19, 7-2.
HLV outhit North Mahaska 7-4, but struggled defensively with three errors leading to four unearned runs for the Warhawks.
Henstorf and Fontinel led the Warriors with two hits apiece. One of Henstorf’s hits was a double, and Fontinel had an RBI single. York also doubled.
