It was a quick exit from the Class 1A District 5 baseball tournament for HLV last Saturday night as they lost a first-round game to Gladbrook-Reinbeck at Gladbrook, 4-3.
The Rebels scored the winning run in the bottom half of the seventh inning after the Warriors had tied it 3-3 in the top half on a two RBI double by Cam Kennebeck.
Until that point Gladbrook-Reinbeck pitcher William Kuribus was in control, striking out 17 HLV batters and giving up just five hits.
Max Henstorf had three of those hits – all singles, and scored twice. Boston York and Peyton Roth added hits.
Kennebeck pitched three-hit ball over five innings for the Warriors, giving up three runs – two earned. He walked four batters and struck out seven.
Henstorf threw two innings of relief, allowing two runs - one earned, on two hits. He struck out three.
The loss completed a 5-11 season for HLV and marked the final high school game for two seniors – Kennebeck and Kyler Gorsh.
