Sporting a 2-1 record last week, HLV’s softball team moved one game above the .500 mark for the season at 5-4.
KEOTA
The Warriors put up eight runs in the last two innings to pull away from the Eagles and win 14-2 Friday, June 9, at Keota.
Junior Hailey Jack pitched a complete game for HLV, holding the Eagles to no earned runs on three hits and striking out nine.
The Warriors collected eight hits, including two each by freshmen Ralene Hawkins and Mackenzie Allee, who between them drove in three runs and scored four times.
Heather Schafbuch doubled and had three RBI, Kyla Roberts singled to drive in two runs, and Addy Shaull and Mackenzie Allee had RBI hits.
IOWA VALLEY
HLV rallied for seven runs in the sixth inning to wipe out a 4-1 deficit and beat the Tigers 8-5 Wednesday, June 7, at Victor.
A two-run single by Shaull and RBI hits from Ema and Kyla Roberts fueled the rally, which also was aided by four Iowa Valley errors.
Jack earned the win, scattering seven hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out five.
ENGLISH VALLEYS
The Warriors suffered a 9-2 loss to the Bears Monday June 5, at North English.
HLV managed just four hits in the game, two of those by Hawkins, who drove in both runs.
Five of EV’s nine runs off losing pitcher Jack were unearned thanks to four Warrior errors. Jack gave up six hits and struck out five.
