Student Spotlight: Ema Roberts
VICTOR — Ema Roberts, a senior at HLV High School, was featured in the Kirkwood Iowa County winter newsletter.
Roberts started taking Kirkwood classes her sophomore year of high school, she says in the publication.
“I enjoyed my health careers course the most because it helped me get my CNA where I am able to get real nursing experience before college,” Roberts said.
“I also liked medical terminology because I was able to break down fancy medical terms and understand their meanings.
“The most surprising things I have learned have been from my psychology courses and how our minds and bodies develop from birth to death.”
Roberts said that Heather Strempke-Durgin had a lasting impact on her in her Composition II class. Strempke-Durgin helped her understand topics unfamiliar to her, Roberts said.
Strempke-Durgin met with students via Zoom to help them work through assignments and make sure they were on track throughout the course, Roberts said.
“Although most of my professors have left an impact on me, she has the most.”
Roberts said in the newsletter that taking college credit classes in high school prepares students by allowing them to take courses relevant to their future professions so they can learn early on if that’s what they truly want to do.
