Williamsburg boys with best showing at North Linn

SEARSBORO — In what could be called a South Iowa Cedar League meet preview, six conference cross-country teams competed at the Big Springs Shooting Range Thursday in the Montezuma Invitational.
The SICL meet will be run at the same course Tuesday.
It is the goal of any runner to get faster as the season progresses, and several runners accomplished that.
English Valleys’ Isaac Frazier ran his fastest time of the season, finishing fourth in the boys’ race in 17:45.2. HLV-TC’s Allan Scott followed suit and ran 18:21.6, a big season best.
Montezuma’s Dayton Reif broke 19 minutes, finishing in 18:59.2, a personal best. Belle Plaine’s Devin Timm was right behind in 19:00.5.
English Valleys won another girls’ title, scoring 29 points.
Hillcrest Academy Invitational
KALONA — Anna Luers finished runner-up as the English Valleys’ girls won another team title Monday on the campus of Hillcrest Academy.
The Bears; team score of 42 edged second-place North Mahaska by 25 points.
Aubrey Achenbach finished sixth for the Bears.
In the boys’ race, Isaac Frazier led English Valleys with a ninth place finish. HLV-TC’s Allan Scott was 11th.
Iowa Valley ran both of its varsity teams in the JV races. Ayden Wagner was seventh in the boys’ race.
Wolverine Invitational
DIKE — In a large field with 159 finishers, BGM’s Carter Corona had his best race of the season to lead the BGM boys Tuesday at Fox Ridge Golf Course.
Corona finished 38th in 18:24.2. The team finished 14th in the field, the girls were 16th.
Bob Mudd Lynx Invitational
TROY MILLS — The 3A No. 14 Williamsburg girls finished runner-up at North Linn High School with 70 points, behind also 3A ranked Solon, who had 56.
Aubree Wilde stepped up for the Raiders as the fourth runner, beating her previous personal best with a time of 21:19.9 and finishing 18th.
The Williamsburg boys had their best meet of the season finishing fourth.
The team’s pack of five scorers ranged from 17:48 to 18:21 and included three season bests and one personal best for Brevin Zirkel.
