HLV wins in semifinals

REINBECK -- HLV is one away from its first trip to the state volleyball tournament.

The Warriors were scheduled to face off with Lynnville-Sully in the Class 1A regional finals Monday night at Sully, with the winner moving on to state. The Hawks beat the Warriors in five sets earlier this season.

HLV knocked off Gladbrook-Reinbeck 3-2 in last Thursday’s regional semifinals at Reinbeck. The Warriors dropped two of the first three sets before rallying to win sets three and four, 25-15, 15-11.

Ema Roberts and Mckenzie Kempf had 22 and 21 kills, respectively, to lead HLV.

Hailey Jack contributed 36 assists, Addy Shaull led the team with 22 digs, and Roberts and Nicole Gensley had two service aces apiece.

The Warriors beat BGM in the first round of the tournament last Tuesday night at Victor, 25-23, 20-25, 25-8 and 25-14,.

Roberts had 14 kills in that match. Kempf had nine, and Jack, seven, with 20 assists.

Shaull collected 17 digs, and Kempf and Gensley each had four service aces.
