HOMESTEAD — The Homestead Folk Art Museum will have its grand opening Saturday, April 5, the Amana Heritage Society announced this week.
The public is invited to explore the rich heritage of folk art, craftsmanship and industrial art that reflects the spirit and history of the communal from 1855 to 1932 and the post-communal Amana Colonies from 1932 to the present.
The free event is set for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and will feature guided tours, live demonstrations by local artisans and engaging talks about the significance of folk art in preserving Amana’s cultural heritage.
The museum is located at 4430 V Street in Homestead.
The Homestead Folk Art Museum will showcase a diverse collection of folk art pieces, including traditional crafts, textiles, woodworking and paintings, all created by Amana Colonies artists, The Amana Heritage Society said in a press release.
The exhibits highlight the creativity and storytelling that define the Amana community, providing a deeper understanding of the artistic expressions that have flourished in Iowa since the 1850s.
Donations to support ongoing programs and exhibitions are welcome.
