Hope you are doing well and had no major issues with the first big snowstorm of the season.
We continue to hold subcommittee and committee meetings on many bills filed this year. Today, we voted to pass House Resolution 3 and Senate File 167.
HR 3 was passed to affirm support for the State of Israel’s sovereignty and their right to defend themselves. It passed on the floor with every Republican and some of the Democrats, while 10 Democrats voted against the resolution.
SF 167 was the annual budget bill of Supplemental State Aid bill for public schools. It passed with 58 of 62 Republicans in favor and no Democrats.
The Iowa House conformed with the Senate bill, but increases the FY26 from 2% to 2.25% and increases the Property Tax Pickup by $11.6 Million.
Republicans have voted for increased SSA budgets every year since holding the majority. The last time there was a cut, it was a 10% cut with Gov. Culver and a Democrat trifecta.
The Legislature passed a budget last year that increased teacher pay to sixth highest in the country, with 44% of the entire state budget (the annual state budget is over $9 Billion) going to K-12 education.
Have a great weekend, stay safe and warm — especially next week.
