MARENGO — The City of Marengo hired Shawn Huedepohl last month to manage the pool for a second season.
The city received only one application on time for the position, said City Administrator Ellen O’Rourke during the Jan. 26 meeting of the Marengo City Council.
The salary for the pool manager will increase from $7,500 to $8,500 with a start date of April 1. The city was later than it wanted to be getting a manager hired last year as the new pool opened for the first time.
Marengo Mayor Travis Schlabach wanted the earlier start date so Huedepohl can start finding life guards and getting certification. “I thought he did an excellent job,” said Schlabach.
As Huedepohl is now a member of the city council, he’ll have to abstain on votes related to the pool, said Schlabach.
The pool was open four days in May of 2025 and didn’t close until the last week of August. The total attendance in the pool’s first year was 11,934, an average of 140 people a day, according to Huedepohl.
The pool made $23,720 at the gate, and season passes amounted to $17,755, a total of $41,475. Parties were booked every weekend but one, said Huedepohl after pool season. The 24 parties brought in $3,650.
