MARENGO — Khloe Jean Heitman, 25, of Sigourney, was charged Feb. 15 in Iowa County District Court with child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
About 7 p.m. Feb. 14, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department found nine one-ounce cartridges of commercially produced cannaboid vape -- eight empty and one full -- in Heitman’s vehicle in the Casey’s parking lot at 504 S. Main St. in North English, according to court documents.
Earlier in the day, Heitman’s mother-in-law picked up Heitman’s children from Heitman. She said she smelled marijuana on Heitman and called the sheriff’s office to request a welfare check and assessment of Heitman before returning the children to her, court documents say.
Deputies found the cannaboid vape canisters at the time of the custody exchange.
Darrick James Mahan, 49, of Marengo, was charged Feb. 17 with driving while his license was denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. Marengo police discovered the violation at 2:54 p.m. Feb. 15 on Iowa 212 east.
