MARENGO — Steven Matthew Goeldner, 54, of Belle Plaine, was charged in Iowa District Court March 6 with criminal mischief in the second degree.
Marengo police allege that, about 10:36 p.m. March 1, Goeldner struck the wall of a wash bay at Super Shine car wash, 280 Eastern Ave. in Marengo with a spray nozzle, making a hole in the wall. The cost to repair the damage and replace that section of wall is estimated at $1,260.
According to court documents, Goeldner confessed during a hone interview March 6 that he damaged the wall.
Sean Thomas Gallagher, 50, of Ames, was charged March 10 with two counts of forgery and theft in the second degree, all Class D felonies. According to court documents, Gallagher attempted to cash a forged cashier’s check from True Comfort LLC in Runnells for $4,875 at Keyston Savings Bank, 330 Western Ave. in Marengo about 12:30 p.m. March 7.
Gallagher had cashed the same forged check for the same amount at the Keystone Saving Bank in Victor less than an hour earlier. The Victor bank cashed the check before realizing it was a forgery, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.
Bail for Gallagher was set at $5,000.
Armando Jose Guedez Daher, 32, of Austin, Texas, was charged with theft in the first degree against an older person (someone 60 or older), theft in the first degree and conspiracy to commit non-forceable entry after scamming a Marengo woman out of $24,000.
Posing as an undercover federal agent, Guedez Daher accepted the money from the victim Feb. 28 and then asked for an additional $20,000, court documents say. He was arrested March 10 after picking up the additional money.
Nicholas James Bernard, 21, of Williamsburg, was charged March 8 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. Bernard was arrested by Williamsburg police March 8 about 7:51 p.m. on Evans Street.
Chad Matthew Sherman, 45, of Parnell, was charged March 8 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. He was stopped by Williamsburg police March 3 about 8:58 p.m. on Iowa Highway 149 north.
