MARENGO — Ryan Allyn Waldrop, 46, of Marengo, was charged April 10 in Iowa County District Court with driving while his license is barred.
Waldrop was arrested by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department April 9 about 7:28 p.m. on Highway 6 Trail near Western Avenue, according to a document filed with the court.
An officer pursued Waldrop for not having plates displayed on the 2000 Dodge Ram he was driving, the document says. Waldrop failed to stop, sped off and eventually stopped in the backyard of 324 W. Randolph St. in Marengo.
According to a report filed with the court, Waldrop eventually exited the house and admitted he’d been driving the Ram. His license had been barred from Aug. 21, 2023 to Aug. 18, 2029, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Gabriel Osvaldo Cruz, 26, of North English, was charged April 11 with child endangerment and assault. According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Cruz left a two-year-old child in his care alone for an hour in an apartment in North English the morning of April 10.
Cruz is accused of striking Sergio Garcia at an apartment in Conroy the same morning.
Kelly Joe Burrell, 59, of Victor, was charged April 9 with driving while his license is suspended. The Iowa State Patrol stopped Burrell April 8 at 7:50 p.m. at 230th St. and B Avenue south of Victor.
According to a report from the a State Patrol, an officer patrolling near Guernsey saw a Ford Econoline van with no lights on turn north onto 225th St. The officer attempted to catch the vehicle, but it sped away, according to a report filed with the court.
The van ran stop sign at 225th and 430th, turned east and hit speeds over 70 miles per hour, the court document says. The speed limit after dusk is 50 mph.
The officer didn’t activate his emergency lights because of the dust, the document says.
The van ran a stop sign at 430th and 235th, hitting a high speed of 78 mph, ran a stop sign at B Avenue, turned south on D Avenue, turned west on 250th then north into a field drive and a cattle pasture, said the State Patrol.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren. The van ran out of room and attempted to turn around but was prevented by the patrol car, the court document says.
The officer recognized Burrell whom he had arrested two weeks prior for driving while his license is revoked, according the State Patrol report.
Burrell’s license is revoked until Nov. 22, 2025 for refusal to take an OWI test, the court document says.
Burrell was also cited for failure to provide proof of insurance, speeding, failure to use headlights and failure to obey stop signs.
Cynthia Faith Hicks, 220, of Des Moines, was charged April 13 with driving while her license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office stopped Hicks about 6:29 p.m. April 12 at a Benton Iowa signed route and US 151 North.
Sean Michael Menard, 40, of Camdon, was charged April 13 with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense, and possession of marijuana, first offense.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office stopped Menard about 1:18 p.m. April 13 at mile marker 214 on Interstate-80 eastbound for a registration and speeding violations, according to a document filed with the court.
The deputy saw open containers of hard alcohol throughout the vehicle, smelled alcohol, and found marijuana and a glass pipe in the vehicle. the document says.
Mendard failed a field sobriety test and showed a blood alcohol content of 0.126 at the jail, the court document says.
Menard was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded not guilty to that charge. A non-jury trial is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
