MARENGO — Taylor Elaine Sullivan, 29, of Altoona, was charged April 24 in Iowa County District Court with possession of a controlled substance, second offense.
Dylan Conrad Hamilton, 51, of Des Moines, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance (meth), first offense, in the same incident.
According to court documents, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped a 2010 Volkswagen driven by Hamilton at F52 Trail and M Avenue at 9:34 p.m. April 23 for going 69 miles an hour in a 55 mph zone.
Sullivan was a passenger in the vehicle.
During the stop, the sheriff’s deputy noticed a glass pipe in an open pocket of a backpack on the backseat, a document filed with the court says. The deputy searched the backpack and found six syringes, an electronic scale, a second glass pipe and a small bag of white crystals that tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the sheriff’s deputy, Hamilton at first said the backpack was his but later said it belonged to Sullivan.
A bag on the passenger side of the front floor board contained three syringes, another glass pipe and white power residue that tested positive for meth, according to the deputy’s report. The pipe had Sullivan’s name on it, the report said.
Sullivan fled on foot and could not be found right away, even with the help of a drone. She was located hiding in a ditch about 4:56 a.m. April 24, according to the deputy’s report.
Hamilton pleaded not guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia. A non-jury trial is set for Sept. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
