MARENGO — Brenden William Hartwig, 24, of Amana, was charged May 20 in Iowa County District Court with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department picked up Hartwig May 19 about 5:06 p.m. at U.S. Highway 6 and U.S. 151.
Reynaldo Rosales Jr., 34, of Williamsburg, was charged May 20 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department picked up Rosales about 6:46 a.m. May 20 in the 3200 block of M Avenue.
Rosales was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Clayton Joel Froias, 32, of Ottumwa, was charged May 20 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department picked up Froias about 2:25 a.m. May 17 on Interstate 80.
Froias was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Allan James Jones, 62, of Victor, was charged May 20 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department picked up Jones about 12:30 p.m. May 13 at 606 Third St.
Jones was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Seth Patrick Gillis, 27, of Washington, was charge May 18 with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Gillis about 2:39 a.m. May 18 at 300 E. Hilton for driving 59 in a 55-mile-per-hour zone, according to court documents.
Gillis was weaving in his lane and failed to stop at a stop sign, according to a report filed with Iowa County District Court.
The deputy who stopped Gillis said in the report that he smelled alcohol, saw open containers of alcohol in the vehicle and noticed signs of intoxication in Gillis.
According to the sheriff’s deputy, Gillis refused to exit the vehicle, and the deputy called for backup. Gillis still refused to get out of the vehicle after the second deputy arrived, the court document says.
Gillis finally got out of the vehicle after more than 10 minutes, according to the deputy’s report, and failed a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol level measured 0.191%, the report says.
Gillis wouldn’t get into the deputy’s car, according to the deputy. He was cited for interference with official acts.
Scott Allen Northup, 61, of Belle Plaine, was charged May 19 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, second offense.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Northup passed a vehicle about 8 p.m. May 18 and a sheriff’s deputy noticed that the truck he was driving had no plates.
The deputy turned around and followed Northup, who pulled into a driveway at 1944 Highway 6 Trail. The deputy spoke to Northup who said he stopped there to visit a friend, according to the deputy’s report.
Later Northup admitted that he didn’t know who lived there and he had pulled into the driveway to avoid the deputy.
The deputy noticed the odor of alcohol and signs of intoxication, according to a report filed with the court. Northup failed a field sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol level above 0.08%, according to the court document.
Northup has a prior conviction for OWI in Linn County in 2015. He was also cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Cameron Joseph Neuzil, 21, of Oxford, was charged May 20 with violation of a protective order. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department says that Neuzil sent a message to the phone of the protected party via Snapchat May 2, violating a no contact order issued Aug. 17, 2023, in effect until Aug. 17, 2028.
Matthew James Kirby, 32, of Center Point, was charged May 18 with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, first offense.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Kirby just after midnight May 18 at U.S. Highway 6 and V St. for going 50 in a 35 mph zone in Homestead, according to a report filed with the court.
The deputy smelled marijuana and noticed a green vape and paper packaging in the center console, according to the report. Kirby told the deputy that someone had smoked marijuana in the car before, the report says.
The deputy found a second vape in the front passenger seat, the report says. One of them tested positive for THC, the deputy’s report says.
Kirby was also cited for speeding.
