MARENGO — David Lawrence Turner, 42, of Grinnell, was charged in Iowa County District Court June 20 with driving while barred.
Turner was stopped by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department for an equipment violation about 9:27 a.m. June 22 at the Interstate 80 east ramp and B Avenue, according to a report filed with the court.
Turner is barred from driving from May 28, 2025 until May 27, 2027, according to the sheriff’s office.
Arraignment for Turner was set for 9 a.m. July 21.
Kale David Olson, 53, of Glendale, Arizona, was charged June 29 with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, third or subsequent offense.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department found Olson parked in a field entrance on 240th St. near W Avenue about 7:25 p.m. June 28, according to court documents. A resident had requested a welfare check on the driver of the vehicle because he was slumped over, court documents say.
Olson appeared to be asleep, according to a statement by a sheriff’s deputy. Olson went in and out of consciousness, yelled nonsense and flailed his arms, the report said.
When Olson became coherent, he consented to be searched, the report said. The deputy found a marijuana vape.
Olson had been convicted of marijuana possession in 1994 in Johnson County and in 1994 in Tempe, Arizona, according to court documents.
Nicholas Boothby Smith, 36, of Victor, was charged July 1 with sex abuse in the third degree, first offense, a Class C felony.
According to a report by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Smith admitted to having sex with a15-year-old sometime after 7 a.m. June 30 in a porta potty in the parking lot of Victor Public Library.
Matthew Michael Hopkins, 34, of North English, was charged June 21 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The sheriff’s department took Hopkins into custody about noon June 21 at 332nd St. and Iowa Highway 149, according to a report filed with the court.
Dakota John Kruse, 29, of Marengo, was charged June 28 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoke. The Williamsburg Police Department stopped Kruse about 11:15 p.m. June 27 on the ramp at Highway 149 to Interstate 80 east, a report filed with the court says.
Raymond Michael Oehl, 43, of Amana, was charged June 30 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Oehl about 9:31 p.m. June 29 in the 1600 block of U.S. Highway 151 north driving a 2018 Pola Ranger, court documents say.
Oehl was also charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony, with having an open container, with an ATV highway violation and with failure to provide proof of insurance.
Carter Brandon Hertel, 26, of Williamsburg, was charged June 28 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, first offense. The Iowa State Patrol arrested Hertel about 1:20 a.m. June 28 at mile marker 217 of Interstate 80 westbound.
Hertel was stopped by the Iowa State Patrol after multiple lane violations, according to a report filed with the court. He failed a standard field sobriety test, and a breathe test showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.127, according to a document filed by the State Patrol.
Justin James Kelling, 32, of Hartwick, was charged June 29 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, first offense, and with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, third or subsequent offense.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Kelling failed to maintain his lane and was stopped at U.S. Highway 6 and P Avenue about 11:30 p.m. June 27. A deputy found three empty shooter bottles of vodka in Kelling’s pants pocket, according to a report filed with the court, and a marijuana vape dropped from Kelling as he exited the vehicle.
The deputy found several empty bottles in the car, the report said, and Kelling failed a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol level tested at 0.146%, according to a document filed with the court.
Kelling was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after turning over to a deputy two full THC cartridges and a vape pen with cartridge. The deputy found an additional vape and cartridge.
Kelling was also cited for having an open container in the vehicle.
Jacob Thomas Fabor, 27, of Grinnell, was charged with assault June 21. According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Fabor grabbed Dakota Kruse by the neck and threw him to the ground about 5:20 p.m. June 8 at 2208 G Avenue.
Fabor said he acted in self-defense, according to a report filed by the sheriff’s department.
Kruse, 29, of Marengo, was also charged with assault in the incident. A document filed with the court says Kruse confronted Fabor in a threatening manner.
Angeline Marie Troyer, 18, of Williamsburg, was charged June 25 with criminal mischief in the fifth degree. Williamsburg police say that Troyer kicked a wooden spindle at the top of a stairwell at the Williamsburg Police Department, 210 W. State, and broke it in half June 25 about 1:45 p.m.
Troyer notified city hall that she had damaged the spindle, according to a report filed by Williamsburg police. Troyer has been allowed to use the interview room at the police station, which is open to the public as a space to relax.
Troyer has been warned for a couple of weeks beforehand for attempting to damage items, the report said.
A non-jury trial is set for Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m.
George Douglas Flanegan, 41, of North English, was charged June 26 with a rabies vaccination violation. According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Flanegan is the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident in North English. His Jack Russell terrier was not current on vaccinations, a report filed with the court says.
Meleya M. Martin, 25, of Marengo, was charged June 20 with domestic abuse first offense. Marengo police say that about 1:15 a.m. June 20, Martin struck, scratched and threw items at Austen John Hansen-MClenathan during an incident at a residence they share.
According to police, Hansen-McClenathan had scratch marks and a minor laceration on his shoulder that could have been caused by a broken candle diffuser. He was covered in water and hot wax, the police report says.
A no contact order was issued June 20.
Martin pleaded self-defense.
Joseph Kinnick Kueter, 19, of Williamsburg, was charged July 1 with driving while barred. Williamsburg police stopped Kueter about 9 p.m. June 30 on Evans Street in Williamsburg.
Anthony Jacob Miles, 39, of Coralville, was charged July 1 with domestic abuse.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Miles was in a dispute with Mary Shrock at their residence in Parnell about 3 a.m. July 1 when he slammed a door on Shrock’s hand resulting in cuts, bleeding, bruising and swelling.
A no contact order was issued July 1.
