MARENGO — Joshua Adam Palmer, 47, of Coralville, was charged July 2 in Iowa County District Court with driving while his license is suspended.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Palmer July 1 about 5:29 a.m. at C Street and U.S. Highway 151.
Chase Edward Harriman, 18, of Ladora, was charged July 7 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Harriman about 3:21 a.m. July 7 at PP Avenue and Highland Street, according to a report filed with the court.
Amanda Marie Jennings, 28, of Marengo, was charged July 4 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, second offense. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Jennings July 4 about 1:39 a.m. on Court Avenue in Marengo for having a non-operating brake light, according to court documents.
Jennings was slurring her speech, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to a report filed by a deputy. She failed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test and refused to take a standard field sobriety test or a breath test.
The deputy found a full can of Twisted Tea, an open can of Twisted Tea and two empty liquor shooter bottles in the vehicle. A Datamaster test showed that Jennings had a blood alcohol content of 0.209%, according to the deputy’s report.
Jennings has a prior OWI conviction from Linn County in July 2016.
James Luke Slockett, of Marengo, was charged July 5 with assault for an incident that occurred about 11:30 p.m. July 3.
According to Marengo police, Slockett got into a verbal dispute with Harley Martin, also of Marengo, at 153 E. Main St. Slockett shoved Martin, the police report says, and a witness attempted to separate the two.
Slockett pushed the witness who pushed Slockett back, the police report says. Marengo police cameras caught the incident on video.
Carol Lynn Hubbard, 73, of Princeton, Missouri was charged July 3 with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, first offense.
According to Marengo police, someone reported a purse left under a park bench in the Marengo City Park about 2:20 p.m. July 3. An officer retrieved the purse and looked inside for identification.
The officer found a metal grinder with a green leafy substance on it, a pipe with burned residue and pills in two containers that weren’t prescription bottles, according to the report filed with the court. Hubbard claimed the purse as her own.
Mackenzie Anne Jennings, 30, of Williamsburg, was charged July 6 with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, first offense, and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
According to Williamsburg police, Jennings was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 800 block of Chatham Street about 10:55 p.m. July 4 when police approached.
The officer noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a report filed with the court. Jennings exited the vehicle, and the officer saw a green leafy substance in the driver’s seat and what appeared to be five burned roaches in the center console.
Jaime Moreno Jr., 22, of West Liberty, was charged July 6 with driving while his license was denied or revoked.
According to a report filed with the court, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Moreno about 2:27 p.m. July 6 at F52 Trail and YY Avenue because he was talking on his cellphone while driving.
A license check showed that Moreno’s license was revoked for an OWI-test failure. His license is revoked from Jan. 1, 2025 until July 27, 2025, according to the report.
Armando Jose Guedez Daher pleaded guilty May 5 to conspiracy to commit a nonforcible felony and was given a five-year sentence, which was suspended. He was given five years probation and fined $1,025.
Guedez Daher, 32, of Austin, Texas, was originally charged with theft in the first degree against an older person (someone 60 or older), theft in the first degree and conspiracy to commit nonforceable entry after scamming a Marengo woman out of $24,000. A jury trial had been set for May 20.
Posing as an undercover federal agent, Guedez Daher accepted the money from the victim Feb. 28 and then asked for an additional $20,000, court documents said. He was arrested March 10 after picking up the additional money.
A jury trial for Cole Allen Wells on the charge of control of a firearm by a felon has been rescheduled for Oct. 7, 2025 at 9 a.m.
Wells, 22, of Indianola, was charged in March with possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony, and with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon after allegedly pointing a firearm at another driver while westbound on Interstate 80 in Iowa County.
