MARENGO — Robert Franklin Seastrand III, 45, of Iowa City, was charged Aug. 28 in Iowa County District Court with possession of a controlled substance, second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department took Seastrand into custody on a warrant about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at 240th St. and U Avenue. In Seastrand’s backpack, deputies found a glass pipe and methamphetamine, according to the criminal complaint filed with the court.
Seastrand has two prior convictions for possession of methamphetamine, the complaint says, but both were charged as first offenses, one in Muscatine County in February of 2024 and another in Washington County in April of 2024.
Nathan L. Hurst Jr., 26, of Moline, Illinois, was charged Aug. 28 with driving while under suspension. The Iowa State Patrol picked up Hurt about 1:25 p.m. Aug. 25 at mile marker 212 on Interstate 80, according to a report filed with the court.
Bin Rashid Kahamu, 28, of Marshalltown, was charged Sept. 1 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped Kahamu about 1:08 a.m. Aug. 31 on Iowa Highway 212, according to a report filed with the court.
Kevin Kalala Makiese, 29, of Cedar Rapids, was charged Sept. 1 with driving while his license is denied, suspended, canceled or revoked. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department stopped McKiese about 3:51 p.m. Aug. 29 at C Street and U.S. Highway 151, according to a report filed with the court.
Michael James Love, 28, of Hartford, was charged Aug. 29 with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, second offense, and possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 call about 8 a.m. Aug. 29 reported an erratic driver on Interstate 80 in a yellow Ford Econoline E450 bus. About 8:30 a.m., another report said the same bus was parked in thee middle of the road on the I-80 exit ramp at mile marker 216, a court document filed by the sheriff’s department says.
The driver seemed to be sleeping on a couch near the driver’s seat, and the bus was running, according to the court report. A deputy boarded the bus to see if Love needed medical attention and found an open can of beer on the floor next to Love, the report says.
Love refused to leave the bus and resisted arrest, according to the report filed by the sheriff’s department. A taser was used to gain control of Love.
Love refused all breath tests, the deputy said in his report.
Following Love’s arrest, deputies found a Glock 19 9 mm handgun in a refrigerator above the driver’s seat. The weapon contained a magazine with 15 rounds but no round was in the chamber, the sheriff’s report says.
Love was also cited for interfering with official acts.
Scott T. English, 67, of Morrison, Illinois, was charged Aug. 29 with OWI second offense. English was involved in an accident on I-80 at mile marker 211 about 6:43 p.m. Aug. 28, according to a report filed by the Iowa State Patrol.
Officers found three open containers in the vehicle, and a preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol content of more than 0.08, the report says.
Mckinzie Taylor, 28, of Marengo, was charged Sept. 2 with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Tayler was a passenger in a van that was stopped by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department about 9:53 p.m. Sept. 1 at U.S. Highway 6 near KK for speeding.
According to the report filed by the sheriff’s department, the deputy found a marijuana grinder and sorting tray in the vehicle.
