Iowa County Democrats value public education
Iowa County Democratic Central Committee
Mar. 27, 2024 4:18 pm
In Iowa, we value rural life and our children. Public education contributes mightily to both of those things.
Yet Gov. Reynolds and the Iowa Legislature have taken a wrecking ball to public education. The most recent example being the proposed dismantling of Iowa’s Area Education Agencies.
State Sen. Dawn Driscoll, in particular, has been part of the wrecking ball.
Last year she did not appear at any public forums in Iowa County. She did not answer emails from her constituents with concerns about the Students First Act (voucher bill) and voted in favor of it.
During the 2024 legislative session she has been invited to meet with folks in Iowa County on a weekly basis but has not joined us. In addition her biweekly newsletter has mentioned Iowa’s AEAs only once.
What were her thoughts on dismantling the AEAs? Does she care about the concerns that many of us have?
The Iowa County Democrats held their County Convention March 23. Ed Chabal appeared. He will be running against Driscoll for Senate District 46. He lives in Washington and is Chief Financial Officer of the Mount Pleasant school district.
When he introduced himself he smiled, stated his name, and said “It’s ED for EDucation.” What a breath of fresh air. He has expertise in the area of school funding. He supports public education.
We can continue to value rural life and our children. Follow Driscoll’s voting record and public appearances in Iowa County. Meet Ed Chabal. And keep in mind the importance of public education when you vote in November.
