Certified Iowa County Supervisors honored during Aug. 22 ceremony
SOUTH AMANA — Iowa County Supervisor Abigail Maas has been recertified as Certified Iowa County Supervisor.
The Iowa State Association of County Supervisors honored its second class of Certified Iowa County Supervisors during a ceremony held in conjunction with the Iowa State Association of Counties Annual Conference in Des Moines Aug. 22.
Maas is in the fourth year of her first term as a county supervisor. She sits on the Iowa County Board of Health, the Iowa County Community Development Commission, Early Childhood Iowa Board and several boards within the county, according to a press release.
Maas was also a panelist at ISAC’s Annual Conference where she spoke about budget processes after the passage of House File 718, giving county supervisors advice on how to save taxpayer dollars.
The Certified Iowa County Supervisor program was created and is administered by county supervisors for county supervisors to create a culture of leadership development through continuing education, the press release said.
Certification requires a two-year commitment and 30 credit hours. Recertification requires an additional 15 hours.
Boards of Supervisors are the governing bodies of county government. County supervisors in Iowa are elected to four-year terms and serve as a members of three- or five-person boards of supervisors.
A county supervisor’s duty is to “protect and preserve the rights, privileges, and property of the county or of its residents, and to preserve and improve the peace, safety, health, welfare, comfort and convenience of its residents,” the press release said.
