Iowa County supervisor seeks reelection
May. 9, 2024 12:23 pm
I proudly announce my candidacy in the Republican primary to serve another four year term as Iowa County Supervisor.
As you consider [who to vote for], remember two specific months every year when you receive your tax statements: March and September.
I can honestly feel confident in my voting record the last 3.5 years, as it has been consistent.
When I sit in board meetings and ask questions to determine a stance or direction, it is solely as a taxpayer’s point of view. No special interests, no favoritism and no rubber-stamping.
That’s what I promised to do the last campaign and what I have done during my first term.
Of course, this isn’t always a popular route to take. It’s evident- I challenge. I always ask, “Is this a want or a need?”
In a leadership role you will not make everyone happy. Again, I always think back to writing checks to the Iowa County Treasurer every March and September.
I am proud of this current board’s transparency. We now are livestreamed and publicly recorded. We were unable to get this passed until the last election when two new supervisors were brought on board.
It is vitally important that our taxpayers can actually see and hear what is being presented to the board for consideration, what is being discussed and the stance they take. You, as the taxpayer, can see how your money is being spent.
The current board also brought back the open forum for our county taxpayers to come forward and address us at the start of each meeting.
After HF718, the property tax relief bill, the individuals elected to this supervisor position are going to be placed into harder decisions with your tax dollars every year.
Another state initiative sent down to county level, was the “Back the Blue” law, which requires our sheriff’s compensation be representative to officers working for the state.
I support this initiative. This isn’t an easy job, and we certainly aren’t living in the time of “Mayberry” anymore.
The recent information I received from the DOT stated that there are approximately 28,000 vehicles going through Iowa County, just on Interstate 80 each day. When responding to a call, they have no idea if they are going to encounter illegal immigrants, terrorists, etc., and attempt to manage the scene safely.
Our costs associated with essential services continue to skyrocket due in part to the inflation we are all experiencing and see every day, at the gas pump, at the grocery store. It’s everywhere.
As a board we need to collectively work together to keep our costs down but not allow our essential services to deteriorate.
I have demonstrated my commitment to doing what I said I would do the past three years. No smoke and mirrors. Just a county taxpayer committed to honestly representing Iowa County.
