Iowa County Engineer Nick Amelon, was up first at the June 23 meeting. Oil bids for this next fiscal year were first on the agenda. There were two bids this year. Four County was $1.29 and Farm Service was $1.179. There were two options on the Farm Service bid but only one on Four County's, so Option 1 was used as a comparison. Farm Service gets this year's oil contract.
Amelon told the board he had decided to purchase the crack sealer instead of renting it. The price was approximately $24,900 and came with a parts guarantee for the parts already on it. The board approved the purchase. This past week, crews were crack-sealing in Homestead.
The culvert on 110th Street at Iowa/Johnson Road was put together and scheduled to be backfilled on Monday. Amelon also told the board work had begun again on V66 and they had the first layer down. Friday they were carving out bad spots and redoing them.
Becky Fry gave her monthly update for the Transportation Department. She told the board they are still waiting on a new bus, however she knew that the vans were six to eight months out so didn't expect the bus anytime soon.
In other business, the supervisors were finally able to approve the Secondary Roads Union Contract. They had been waiting to receive copies of it for several weeks. They also approved a road closing for the Hawk A Model A Ford Club on 47th Avenue in Amana. This is their 15th year for the show, which will take place on Aug. 19.
The county employee lodging policy HR010 was amended during this week's meeting as well. The policy says that employees who travel must first check a database to see if the lodging where they are staying isn't on a sex trafficking website. If it is and they stay there anyway, they will not be reimbursed. This does not apply outside the state of Iowa.
