AMES — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Urban Agriculture Program will host a public information session and forum titled “Water Access for Urban Farming” Friday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Black Hawk County office in Waterloo.
The program will be presented in partnership with Waterloo Water Works and the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education.
“Water access is a foundational component of establishing an urban farming operation,” said Graham Sandersfeld, urban ag outreach specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “However, it can be complex and challenging to find answers, obtain required permits, or estimate long-term costs.”
During the forum, participants will hear directly from Waterloo Water Works leadership about practical scenarios for urban agriculture water use, including projected costs and logistic planning for municipal water use. The session is designed to support current and aspiring urban growers, community leaders and partner organizations seeking clarity around water access challenges and opportunities in the Waterloo region.
The forum will include time for discussion and questions, allowing attendees to engage directly with presenters and partners. Registration is required to attend this event and lunch will be provided. Visit the online registration form to sign up. This event will be capped at 30 participants.
