BELLE PLAINE AT IOWA VALLEY
Iowa Valley played host to the Belle Plaine Plainsman last Wednesday and took advantage of the home cookin’. The Tigers (6-7) put up seven runs on eight hits to beat Belle Plaine 7-0.
Iowa Valley had seven batters with a hit, including a couple of singles from pitcher Caleb Haack. Even better than Haack’s hitting was his performance on the mound, pitching all seven shutout innings giving up just four hits and striking out seven.
The Plainsman (7-7), playing its third game of the week, scored a combined 29 runs over the previous two days but just couldn’t find a rhythm in this one. Three Belle Plaine batters were credited with hits. Keaton Parrott gave up 6 hits and struck out 13 throwing for the Plainsmen.
IOWA VALLEY AT ENGLISH VALLEYS
Iowa Valley won its third game in a row by knocking off English Valleys on the road Friday, June 23 by an 8-3 margin. Despite the Bears (0-17) playing its way through a tough season, this one came down to the last frame to determine the winner.
The Tigers (7-7) started the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. English Valleys answered with two of its own in the fourth. Each squad put one run across the plate in the fifth, setting up a 3-3 tie going into the seventh. That’s when the Iowa Valley bats really started connecting resulting in a five run inning before holding the Bears scoreless to close out the game.
