It was a busy week for area boys wrestling teams as we head into the holiday break.
Here are some highlights from area action this week in the South Iowa Cedar League.
Storm Dual
CONRAD — Two area teams wrestled in duals at BCLUW Tuesday.
Belle Plaine defeated BGM 46-36, with the Plainsmen going 3-0 in live matches.
The Plainsmen finished 2-1 in the duals, going 12-4 in non-forfieted matches.
Lynnville-Sully Quad
SULLY — Iowa Valley finished 2-1 in a quad at Lynnville-Sully Tuesday.
Every point mattered in its 42-41 win over PCM.
Iowa Valley won seven of its matches by the maximum number of bonus points (six) with wins by fall or forfeit. PCM nearly did the same, but had one win by tech fall, which is only five points.
North Mahaska Quad
NEW SHARON — Montezuma and HLV-TC competed at North Mahaska Tuesday.
Cael Weisskopf and Tristan Pirkl each picked up two wins in their three matches for HLV-TC, as the Warriors fell 0-3 as a team in duals.
Montezuma finished 1-2, with a 51-18 dual win over HLV-TC.
Sigourney-Keota Quad
SIGOURNEY — English Valleys went 2-1 in a quad at Sigourney Tuesday, with wins over Colfax-Mingo and Sigourney-Keota (by tiebreaker).
The Bears totaled four wins in live matches.
Columbus Triangular
COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Class 1A No. 15 Iowa Valley went 3-0 in duals Thursday at Columbus, picking up wins over Columbus/WMU, Van Buren County and Wapello.
Arguably the biggest win of the night for the Tigers came from Carter Koenig at 120.
Columbus/WMU’s Dakota Aney came in ranked 10th at 113, but wrestled up for this match.
Koenig was able to secure a win by fall right at the end of the second period.
Chance Hoyt, after starting the season at 157, has settled into wrestling at 150, and was one of several Tigers to finish the night 3-0.
Monticello Quad
MONTICELLO — HLV-TC went 1-3 at Monticello Thursday in duals.
That was largely due to having open weights.
On the mat, the Warriors finished 12-3.
Fort Madison Invitational
FORT MADISON— Montezuma finished 14th with 174 points in a deep field of 24 teams Saturday at Fort Madison.
Wrestlers were separated into pools at each weight and competed in a round robin format.
Regina Invitational
IOWA CITY — HLV-TC’s Cael Weisskopf defeated West Branch’s Keaton Gates in a 12-9 decision in the 157 championship match Saturday at Regina.
The Warriors finished ninth with 54.5 points between their five wrestlers.
Ben Van Wyk Tournament
SULLY — English Valleys finished 0-3 in a dual tournament Saturday at Lynnville-Sully High School.
Cael Grove (126), Teagen Mast (175) and Kaleb Bolinger (215) each won two live matches.
Starmont Tournament
ARLINGTON — BGM finished seventh with 63 points Saturday at Starmont High School.
Brock York (157) and Reed Slater (215) each finished runner-up for BGM.
Jones Brothers Invitational
IOWA FALLS — Iowa Valley had three champions Saturday at Iowa Falls-Alden High School.
Chance Hoyt (150), Mason Hoyt (175) and Nolan Kriegel (190) won all of their matches by fall.
The Tigers finished fourth with 144 points.
