CLARKSVILLE — A successful season came to an abrupt end for the Iowa Valley football team last Friday night as it made the 182-mile round trip to Clarksville and lost a second-round, 8-man playoff game, 50-8.
The Indians ran the ball at will on the Tigers, accumulating 296 yards on 36 plays, scoring five of their seven touchdowns.
Senior MaKade Bloker and sophomore Owen Backer both had 100-yard performances for Clarksville. Bloker gained 126 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Backer picked up 123 yards on 15 carries and tallied three TDs.
The Indians attempted just two passes and completed both of them, one for a TD. They also returned a kickoff 40 yards for a score.
Clarksville put up 14 points in the first quarter, 16 in the second and 20 more in the third before letting their reserves take over.
Iowa Valley was held to just over 100 yards of total offense and scored its lone touchdown in the fourth period. The Tigers entered the game averaging 51 points and 483 yards per contest.
Although it was a tough way to end the season, the Tigers were successful in Casey Krull’s first year as head coach, compiling a 7-3 record and reaching the second round of the state playoffs.
Six seniors — Karter Thiessen, Colton Hudepohl, Dawson Smith, Taite Peah, Mason Altenhofen and Garrett Hoyt — played their final high school game for Iowa Valley.
A lot of talent will return next season, led by freshman quarterback Nolan Kriegel, who rushed for over 1,200 yards and 20 TDs, and passed for nearly 1,000 yards and 13 scores.
Individual and team statistics for Iowa Valley from the Clarksville game were not available by press deadline.
