MARENGO — The BGM and Iowa Valley basketball teams split a doubleheader Friday night in Marengo.
Starting with the nightcap, the Iowa Valley boys picked up their first win of the season over the Bears, 62-48.
The Tigers finished with four in double figures, led by 13 points from Zavier Pedersen.
Cole Long added an impressive seven steals.
In the girls’ game, BGM (3-2) used a 12-point second quarter to pull away from the Tigers, leading 20-5 at half.
Other area highlights from week
• BGM’s Ellie English had herself a day Monday, knocking down nine of 12 threes in a 29-point performance for the Bears in a 68-29 girls basketball win over Cedar Valley Christian.
• The Belle Plaine girls picked up their first win of the season Monday, defeating Collins-Maxwell 30-21.
• Williamsburg’s Griffin Becker scored 15 points in a 58-45 boys basketball loss to West Delaware Tuesday.
• In the two highest scoring outputs of the week, Montezuma’s Brady Boulton scored 42 points in a loss to Pekin Monday, and HLV-TC’s Tucker Donaldson scored 31 in a win over BCLUW Friday.
