Iowa Valley girls fall to 2-6

The Iowa Valley girls’ basketball team fell to 2-6 after a Tuesday, Dec. 12, loss to Sigourney, 56-37, and a Friday, Dec. 15, loss to HLV, 64-53.
Junior Lydia Kriegel led the Tigers in points against Sigourney with 15, hitting 5 of 14 from the field and 5 of 6 freethrows.
Senior Lola Frimml added nine points, and Grace Ryan, a senior, scored six.
Defensively, Kriegel grabbed eight rebounds, blocked a shot and added one steal. Ryan had seven rebounds and two steals, and Brooklyn Kilgard added five rebounds and a steal.
Iowa Valley scored in the single digits in the first and fourth periods and was outscored in every quarter by the Savages, who had only one loss coming into the game.
Iowa Valley shot 25% from the field and 79% from the line. Sigourney was 42% from the field and 74% from the line.
Collectively, the Tigers grabbed 32 rebounds and stole the ball 8 times while turning the ball over 15 times to Sigourney’s 11.
The loss to HLV Friday was closer, only 11 points. The Tigers outscored HLV in the third period, 18-11 after falling behind 28-18 at half, but HLV put up 25 points to Iowa Valley’s 17 in the fourth to get the win.
For Iowa Valley, Kriegel scored 18 points, hitting 7 of 15 from the field and going 4-for-4 from the line.
Frimml scored 17, including three of eight three-pointers, and Izzy Kriegel scored seven.
On the boards, Ryan pulled down 10 rebounds and Izzy Kriegel, six. Frimml added three.
Iowa Valley was flawless from the line, scoring on all six free throw attempts.
The team totaled 34 rebounds, 14 assists and 11 steals, but gave up 15 turnovers.
