MARENGO — An Iowa Valley graduate is one of nine Iowa recipients of Iowa Newspaper Foundation scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year. The scholarships are awarded to students preparing for careers in journalism.
Brooklyn Kilgard, a student at Iowa State University, received one of two $1,000 Iowa Journalism Institute Scholarships.
The Iowa Newspaper Foundation received 35 applications for the nine scholarships. A committee of Iowa newspaper professionals reviews applications and writing samples from the students, then aligns the top candidates with scholarships that fit the students based on criteria from the funders.
Online applications for next year’s scholarships will be available in September to all public and private high schools in Iowa as well as college and university journalism and mass communication departments. Visit inanews.com to apply.
INF is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation that raises funds to improve the quality and future of Iowa’s newspaper enterprises and the communities they serve.
