Round of 16 pods were released Saturday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association for Class A and 8-player playoff football.
Montezuma and Iowa Valley were placed in the same pod in 8-player, and BGM will face a familiar opponent in their pod in Class A.
8-PLAYER: POD D
Janesville (6-4) at Iowa Valley (9-0)
A quick look at the opponent: Janesville finished third in District 3, behind two other quality teams that have also advanced to the round of 16. The Wildcats defeated Riceveille 44-34 in the first-round with a balanced offensive attack. Blayne Porter handles the quarterback duties for Janesville and is also the team’s leading rusher and scorer.
Montezuma (7-2) at Audubon (9-0)
A quick look at the opponent: It has been a dominant season for the fifth-ranked Wheelers as District 9 champions. Audubon is coming off a 58-20 first-round win over Lenox, and they are more than capable of putting up more points too. The Wheelers have scored 75-plus in five of their wins this season, and the most they’ve given up in a game all season is 30. On 307 carries this season, Audubon is averaging 9.1 yards per carry with 62 scores. When they do pass, they’ve been efficient this season.
CLASS A: POD D
BGM (7-2) at Lynnville-Sully (8-1)
A quick look at the opponent: The District 6 champs are coming off a 42-0 shutout victory of Wapello in the first-round. The Hawks defeated BGM in district play this season 41-20. Lynnville-Sully has shown the ability to win games with their defense this season, allowing six or fewer points six times this season. The Hawks have 71 1/2 tackles for loss this season with 15 1/2 sacks. Wyatt Mathis leads with 11. Gavin Fisk is the team’s top offensive threat.
