Iowa Valley advanced three wrestlers to the state tournament, which begins Thursday, Feb. 1 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Breanna Peach returns to try and improve her fourth-place finish last season. She’ll be joined by Skyler Hoyt (125) and Raelene Hawkins (170).
“These three have had a great season,” Iowa Valley Coach Jeremy Kriegel said. “They’ll look to bring home some hardware on Friday.”
Peach won all three matches by pins in under a minute, decking Kylee Ashley of Newton in 18 seconds, topping Delilah Subsin of Ottumwa in 59 seconds, and winning the championship at 235 pounds in 47 seconds against Ella Ray of EBF.
Peach will be one of 20 undefeated wrestlers at the state meet.
On Monday, Dec. 22, Iowa Valley finished third in the South Iowa Cedar League Tournament in Thornburg. Claire Smolik (140), Dakota Pedersen (145), Hawkins (170) and Peach (235) won titles. Kylie Loffer (100) and Hoyt (130) were runner-up.
