Iowa Valley softball cruises to season opening win
The Iowa Valley softball came out fast against Keota on Monday, May 22. After a two run first inning and a two run second, the Tiger bats lit up in the third posting six more runs. After another hot inning with four runs in the fourth the game was called by mercy rule.
Iowa Valley held Keota to just two scores, both in the first inning, to win the season opener 14-2.
Sophomore Lydia Kriegel went the distance on the mound notching 10 strikeouts against one hit and one walk. Kriegel helped her own cause by knocking in 3 RBIs with the bat in her hand.
Junior Kennedy Rathjen had two hits, scored two runs, knocked in two RBIs and stole a base for good measure.
Following the game Tiger Coach Monica Miller said, “Our team has worked hard in the offseason and we are excited to see what we can do together this season.”
