Iowa Valley wins rematch over English Valleys
EV girls win streak extends to seven

After a 3-8 start to their season, the Iowa Valley boys basketball team has rattled together three straight wins.
Most notably, the Tigers picked up a South Iowa Cedar League win over English Valleys in a rematch Tuesday.
Leading scorer Cole Long was held to five points, but the rest of the Tigers’ starters stepped up to defeat English Valleys 57-50.
The Bears won the previous matchup this season, 78-70.
Layne Peska led the Tigers with 17 points, Xavier Pedersen added 16 and Chandler McKibben 10.
Three-point shooting was the Tigers’ kryptonite in the first matchup, but the Bears shot 5-of-28 from deep this time around. Everett Bender paced English Valleys with 19 points.
The Tigers were 6-8 following this week’s games.
English Valleys extends win streak
The English Valleys girls basketball team just keeps on winning.
After a 3-0 week, the Bears were 11-4, having won seven in a row.
On Monday, English Valleys picked up a quality non-conference win over Highland, 44-37.
The Bears handed the Huskies their second loss of the season.
Addison Achenbach was perfect from the field, going 3-of-3 with 12 points. Anna Luers added 10.
Highland led by one heading into the fourth, and the Bears finished strong, outscoring the Huskies 16-8 in the final quarter.
English Valleys added wins over Iowa Valley and BGM during the week.
Montezuma puts together 4-0 week
Both Montezuma basketball teams went 2-0 last week with wins over North Mahaska and Moravia.
The Bravettes picked up their 10th win of the season in their 41-35 win over North Mahaska Tuesday.
Tied after three quarters, the Bravettes had a 16-10 scoring advantage in the fourth.
Claire Erselius led the charge with 21 points.
In the boys win over the Warhawks, Dane Strong and Brady Boulton each scored 17 points.
Both teams sit at second in the SICL. The girls are 11-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play. The boys are 12-3 and 10-1 in conference play.
BGM sweeps Belle Plaine
In a SICL doubleheader Tuesday in Brooklyn, both BGM basketball teams defeated Belle Plaine.
BGM won the boys game 55-32 and was led by 15 points from Maddox Rhoads.
The Bears won the girls game 44-25.
