Iowa Valley wrestlers 3-0 Saturday

Iowa Valley wrestling went 3-0 at the Colton Allen Memorial Tournament Saturday, Dec. 9, in Wellman.

Iowa Valley beat Mid-Prairie 60-24, and topped Mediapolis 48-36. They also defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie JV 42-40.

“Our boys had three good duals on Saturday where they had to battle through some adversity and feed off each other’s energy,” Iowa Valley Coach J Kriegel said.

The Iowa Valley girls’ wrestling team sent three individuals to the Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational Saturday.

Breanna Peach finished first at 235 pounds, topping Madison Hinrichs of Waverly-Shell Rock in the championship by decision, 7-0.

Raelene Hawks (170) finished third. She lost in the semifinals to Izzy Strickert of Independence by pin, then rallied with a pin of Ellie Callahan of Mid-Prairie and Reece Shrader of Bettendorf.

Skyler Hoyt finished seventh.

“Skyler continues to improve and learn from every match,” Kriegel said. “Raelene finished third in a tough bracket. She is a grinder. Breanna continues to prove that she is one of the best wrestlers in the state.”
